It’s Uncomfortable

The death of “Sopranos” actor James Gandolfini came as a surprise to everyone.  There have been many stories recounting his character and fond memories.  Inside the Actors Studio recently aired its episode featuring James.  His funeral brought together 1,800 people in mourning last Thursday.

While no one may ever be prepared for such a loss, I have to wonder if his agency was prepared by having an advance obituary.  These types of things are never popular to request or to think about; however, an advance obituary should always be included as a step in a crisis communications plan.

Creating a crisis communications plan and asking uncomfortable questions allows us, as practitioners, to understand our client’s full story in order to tell it better during the good times and the bad.
